I am bringing home a young Double Yellow Headed Amazon parrot in a little over a month. Here is a picture of what he’ll look like as an adult : http://www.flickr.com/photos/ex_magician/2462350683/ The names I am considering are: Rio, Elliot, Collin, & Kahlua. What do you all think of these names? Favorites? Any reason why you don’t like a particular one? Please share!

each species of bird is different…. try to look that species on the internet….mating call or sick?

Hi there
Well I live in the UK and last night my Orange Wing Amazon parrot flew away out of our conservatory door. The weather was rather bad last night with quite heavy rain and today its still raining. He can’t really fly that far because whenever he flew from room to room he would usually be panting afterwards. He is not used to the outside world because he is hand-reared so trees and other birds are ‘alien’ to him and wouldn’t know what they are. We have searched the local estate and parks and put up advertisements and posters in the local paper shops and down in the town. He will be very frightened outdoors because he is not used to anything around him. He also doesn’t have the best sense of direction because he would always be flying in and out of different rooms trying to find my dad who he would always go to. Our family aren’t really that confident that we will see him again though. Is there anything else we can do to help find him if possible?

It’s good that you posted ads out already. You should keep searching and maybe contact local animal shelters. When people see a parrot wandering around, I’m sure they’d contact those animal groups (we have spca..not sure about UK).

Any female needs extra calcium during breeding season, regardless of whether or not she is going to breed. At about five years or so, they can start laying eggs, even if no male is around. Eggs can fed for extra calcium, you can even crush the shell up in it. You can also buy supplements. You can also supply your bird with cuttlebone or a mineral block. You should read about egg binding. Some females can’t pass the egg, when this happens they need immediate vet care or they can die.
