No for the eclectus. Not sure about the Amazon, it’s not a commonly kept pet so you might need to look into that one. It is possible yo don’t need one. You do need a license to keep most native species of parrots. You local vets & amazon breeders would know.

I have a mealy amazon parrot and he is about 9 months old and is going through his first moult. the poor bird is getting frustrated with the pin feathers around his head and neck. i shower him to help but i was wandering if there was anything else i could do to help him…plus how long should a moult last for? thanks x

Parrots normally preen each other around the head and neck to help the pin feathers emerge. Gently scratching him in the same direction as the feathers or gently pinching off the sheaths will help him and simulate what his flock members would do. I have read that the head feathers are the last to emerge in a molt so he should be near the end now.

Amazons love eating fruits and fresh cooked vegtables. Make sure that your Amazon also has plenty of nuts and pellets as well. No avocado, chocolate, caffeine, or apple core though. These can be lethal,.

I have a breeding pair of Indian Ringneck Parrots. Yellow with a pink ring around the neck (on the male).
They are beautiful, happy and healthy. Thank you for asking!

Do your home work and do searches on line of avian species so you will know which species is best for you and your children.
I would not suggest any of the Amazons for a first time bird, or to buy a bird for children to play with.
These birds we keep are Exotic creatures with all the natural in stints for survival that the free flying wild birds have.
They are very different than Domestic dogs that have been domesticated over years and years living with people.
Exotic birds have needs that must be met, there is alot to learn to be a good bird owner.
I would suggest a Budgie or Cocktail for a first time bird owner.
You didn’t mention age of the children,but only children that are taught
to be calm and gentle should be allowed to have close contact with birds we keep. Birds are fragile and emotional and their only defense is to bite.

Right. It takes a while for a bird to learn a specific phrase. Admit it. You use this phrase all the time.
Start using another one, like “hi, beautiful people!” Eventually, your bird will start using this one.
Unfortunately, she’ll probably intersperse it with fat bastard…
